Reek Tours are led by a guide with knowledge of the history, archaeology, mythology and geography of the Reek and the islands of Clew Bay.

Apart from the rugged Atlantic beauty that has made this part of the world so famous, there is much that can be learned about Ireland’s colourful past on a Reek Tour, including:

•Tales of the Islands - From the Pirate Queen to John Lennon

•The History of the Reek – from Pagan Chieftains to Saint Patrick

•The Impact of the Great Famine on the area around Croagh Patrick

•The Archaeological Riches of the Reek – from the Bronze to the Iron Ages

•The effects of the Ice Age – the unique geography of Clew Bay

•The ancient trails and heritage sites that are found throughout the west.

From Croagh Patrick, Ireland's holiest mountain, known locally as the 'Reek' to 'John Lennon's Island' of Dorinish, to Clare Island, home of the 'Pirate Queen', the wild Atlantic splendour of Clew Bay and its surroundings draws visitors from around the world to this remote area on the western edge of Europe. Our goal is to impart this local knowledge to you while you enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery in the west of Ireland.

Depending on which tour you chose, our trip can include visits to one or more of the following:

• Ringforts

• Standing Stones

• Chariot Roads

• Holy Wells

• Pagan Cairns

• Famine Villages

• Bronze Age Cooking Pits

• Neolithic Art Carvings

• Cist Burial Chambers

• Mass Altar Rocks

Tours include:

• Patrick’s Causeway Bike Tour

• The Clew Bay Tidal Islands Walk

• Bob of the Reek Cave and Summit Hike

• East-West Traverse of the Reek

• Owenwee/Casan Padraig Route

• Croagh Patrick Pilgrims Path

The tours are chosen in order to show you ancient yet ‘off the beaten path’ routes around Ireland’s holy mountain, coupled with visits to globally recognised sites. The web site (www.thereek.com) provides complete details of all these tours. Tours are limited to small groups, so please book in advance!
