Leenane feels the shade of the Maamturk Mountains at its back as it enjoys some splendid views of the Mweelres Mountains in County Mayo across the dark blue waters of the harbour. Leenane is also known for its Outdoor Pursuits Centres.

Set against a backdrop of the Maamturk mountains meeting the steel-blue waters of Ireland’s only fjord, Killary Harbour, Leenane basks in spectacular Connemara scenery. The village was the setting for Jim Sheridan’s famous film “The Field”, made in 1989, while Leenane is also on the Western Way walking trail and even boasts a heritage centre where visitors can learn about sheep, wool and weaving. A haven for anglers, walkers, adventure and watersports fans.
