The River Drowes is primarily managed by the Drowes Salmon Fishery at Lareen Estate who provide permits, fishing tackle, and tours. The river is some 5mi in length, with over 70 named pools. It flows from Lough Melvin at Lareen Bay and enters the sea at Tullaghan, just outside Bundoran.

The spring salmon season opens on 1st January and fish are usually taken on opening day. The peak of the spring run is in April and the fishing is always good in May with the peak of the grilse run taking place in June. The fishing usually picks up again in September. The brown trout fishing can be good, especially on summer evenings, but it is largely unused because of fishermen's preoccupation with salmon.

The number of rods allowed to fish on the river at any one time is not limited and all legitimate fishing methods are allowed.

Open season for salmon and sea trout is from 1st January-30th September. The brown trout season is from 15th February-30th September inclusive.
