SURFING

THE WILD ATLANTIC WAY OFFERS WORLD-CLASS SURF FOR ALL EXPERIENCE LEVELS

You can find some of the world’s greatest surfing areas on the Wild Atlantic Way. Surfers here can enjoy an endless variety of breaks - from the consistent, beginner-friendly wavelets of Castlegregory Beach in County Kerry to the big wave challenge of surfing County Sligo’s Mullaghmore Head. Then there's the elusive yet legendary monster wave known as Aileen’s that every now and then charges in off the coast at the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare.

The beaches and points that make so many great wave opportunities possible are part of a large and wild marine ecosystem, and surfers can often spot seals, dolphins and whales, as well as a wide variety of seabirds such as puffins, gannets, albatrosses and petrels.

As the number of surfers visiting the region has increased through the years, so too has the range of surf schools and shops, representing a growing industry and a healthy and fun way for visitors to get out into the water and try something new.
