In the summer of 2015, one of Ireland’s most celebrated broadcasters embarked on a sprawling adventure in a three-part television series for RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster. As part of his illuminating odyssey, John Creedon sought to explore the Wild Atlantic Way and uncover the secrets behind its unique landscape, history and culture.

Starting in the charming coastal town of Kinsale, County Cork, John’s journey eventually took him by ferrycurrach, helicopter, light aircraft, cable-carhorseback and his own stylish 1960s VW Campervan as he weaved his way to the very top of Ireland at County Donegal’s Malin Head.

Along the way, John unearthed little-known stories and legends behind the world’s love affair with Ireland’s west coast, discovering hidden archaeology, observing the magical spirit and joy of the people living along the coastline and speaking to some of its proud and famous residents, including Oscar-winning actor, Jeremy Irons.

“If you want to really know the Wild Atlantic Way,” Irons told Creedon, “you have to stop the car, probably come on a bicycle, and really follow your nose, because the secret places are always on the seaside.”

One of the series highlights was John’s ancient pilgrimage at dawn to see the breaking sky in the heart of the Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking) region of Glencolmcille, across the lush hills of Donegal.

Amongst the engaging stories and intriguing characters featured, the series highlighted the breathtaking scenic images all along Ireland’s majestic coastline.

Immerse yourself in the magic and spirit of the west coast of Ireland, explore its stories on full episodes of John Creedon’s Wild Atlantic Way TV show. Watch it on the RTÉ Player International app, Ireland’s IOS TV service.
