Dysert O'Dea Castle & Clare Archaeology Centre

This authentically restored castle which was a stronghold of the O'Dea Clan. It houses the Clare Archaeology Centre and has been recipient of numerous national awards.

The centre has a modern history room 1700 AD to 2000 AD, a museum of local artefacts from 1000 BC to 700 AD, an audio visual presentation, local Archaeology and a Roof Wall Walk. The prehistory room contains one of the finest exhibits of an iron axe head used by the Vikings.

There is also a 6km walking history trail and 25 famous monuments with 12CN High Cross and Romanesque Doorway.
