Want to get away from all the crowds, the hassle and the madness of the festive season? Need to clear the head, declutter your mind and awaken your senses? Here are a few different ways to ring in the New Year.

Portmagee harbour

Looking for something a little crazy and completely unique? Head to the remote South Western village of Portmagee in Kerry, on the beautiful Iveragh Peninsula, for Old Year's Night. Join the locals and celebrate a custom of over 100 years.  A colourful street parade is led by a piper with blazing turf torches and a man dressed as the Old Year. The old man becomes decrepit until, on the stroke of midnight, he disappears. A vibrant young man depicting the New Year appears and takes over the parade and then the New Year party really begins!

Welcome the new year in Dingle, described ‘as the most beautiful place on earth' by National Geographic. Gather at Dingle Pier, at 10pm to watch the fireworks, join the Dingle Fife and Drum Band and meet on the bridge for the countdown! The clear Kerry skies will guarantee the fireworks are truly spectacular!

Sheep on Achill Island

See the last sunset fade on Ireland’s largest Island, Achill. At the stroke of midnight, follow a short parade led by a pipe band to the local pub and welcome in the new year! For the 'morning after the night before' join Achillites at Dugort beach for the traditional New Year's Day swim. Nothing like a bracing dip in the Atlantic to clear out last year’s cobwebs then reward yourself with steaming soup and hot whiskeys on the beach!

Or just relax, unwind and soak up the peace and unequalled tranquillity of New Year’s Eve on the edge of the Wild Atlantic Way.
