Global Irish Festival

Some 70 million people around the world claim to have Irish roots and many of them enjoy tracing those roots while holidaying in the home country each year.

Many more of our fellow country men and women have left for pastures new in recent years and they too look forward to ‘coming home’ on holiday. With cool, crisp days, the scent of turf smoke on the air, the rich hues of the changing foliage and the taste of harvest fruits and vegetables brought to life by warming spices, autumn on the Wild Atlantic Way is truly a feast for the senses.

Even the most die-hard summertime devotee knows there’s plenty to love about the Autumn, with its sun-dappled mornings, nights huddled with friends around cosy fires, and, of course, the lively afternoons and evenings spent heralding the changing of the seasons with friends old and new at one of the region’s many great festivals. The Global Irish Festivals series, funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, offers all of you the perfect reason to come home and visit

Throughout the month of October, Limerick and Donegal will play host to a number of special festivals and events that will be of particular interest to friends and family who want to experience Ireland at its autumnal best. Culture is an enormous part of the Irish identity; as a nation we are renowned for our writers, actors and artists, many of whom have immortalised the richness of the harvest season in poetry, art or song. So what better way to connect with the warm heart of Ireland than by attending some of the west’s best festivals, joining locals and visitors alike to enjoy the very finest in traditional and contemporary culture and heritage our fair isle has to offer?
