The Worldwide Atlantic Way: Global Irish Festival Series 2019

Setting up camp along the Wild Atlantic Way, this year’s festival offers a truly unique opportunity for the thousands of Irish people around the world to reconnect with home.
Taking place in County Limerick and County Donegal, it is sending an irresistible invite to Irish people abroad to make the trip home and celebrate the culture of their own home county, uncover shared histories and forge new, lasting connections.

The Global Irish Festival Series, returning for its second outing, is once again offering a mix of dynamic events and activities. The exciting and diverse programme offers something for everyone, highlighting our rich culture and traditions and offering a window into why Ireland and the Irish are so treasured the world over.

The Limerick Global Irish branch will see events from the I.NY festival and the Richard Harris International Film Festival all take place in the city this October.

Centred around Ireland’s relationship with the US, particularly New York, I.NY (12-20 October) is a one-of-a-kind festival showcasing the two locations’ shared histories, their ever-evolving relationship, and the ways in which their identities have been shaped and influenced by one another.

The Richard Harris International Film Festival (22-28 October) was established to celebrate the unique talent of Richard Harris in the city where he was born and raised. The festival showcases high-quality content, including short and feature movies and documentaries selected on an international competitive basis. There’s even a Richard Harris retrospective screening.

This year, the festival will include a new music strand and iMet – a vibrant summit focusing on film/entertainment technologies.

Up in Donegal, the Irish diaspora are invited to discover more about the county with Donegal Connect 2019 (27 September – 6 October). This series of events aims to engage and entice people to explore the county and discover just why it’s such a wild and wonderful place to visit, invest, live, and study in.

With an impressive programme planned for 2019, including fantastic food experiences, genealogy classes, sport, business, arts, music, and culture events, Donegal Connects also boasts a number of high-profile ambassadors like golfer Paul McGinley, goalkeeper Packie Bonner, and actor Sarah Jessica Parker – to name but a few. Are you ready to discover your connection to what National Geographic named the ‘coolest place on the planet’
