Few towns can match Westport for its charisma and cosmopolitan flavor. Easily accessible by road, rail bike, sea and a nearby airport it touches the south east shores of Clew Bay and lies against the backdrop of the protective and imposing Croagh Patrick.

Westport is a Failte Ireland Heritage Town and it is easy to see how it regularly tops tidy town and community award lists with colourful shop fronts married with attractive pubs and cafes, not to mention the tree-lined streets along the banks of the Carrowbeg river.

The award-winning Great Western Greenway, one of Ireland’s most-talked-about walking and cycling trails, starts in Westport stretching all the way to Achill Island. Westport House and Pirate Adventure Park is only five minutes walk from the town centre and oozes heritage, family-fun, and adventure. The 18th Westport House is privately owned and operated by the Browne family, who are direct descendants of Grace O’ Malley, the famous 16th Century Pirate Queen of Connaught.

Ireland’s iconic pilgrimage mountain, Croagh Patrick, is just up the road and there are lots of sandy blue flag beaches just a short drive away along the shores of Clew Bay. Get the adrenalin pumping with one of the many water based activities and try some island-hopping, top golf, horse treks and fishing.

Westport comes alive at night with its buzzing pubs, cafés and restaurants and live music.
