Limerick city straddles the majestic River Shannon and is rich in medieval and Georgian architecture. One of its top attractions is King John’s Castle on ‘King’s Island’ with a stunning new exhibition bringing to life over 800 years of dramatic local history through 21st century touch screen technology, 3 D models and dazzling computer generated animations. Visit St. Mary’s Cathedral and enjoy the elegant Georgian architecture of Pery Square.

Arts enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice with Limerick’s many galleries. The Hunt Museum exhibits one of Ireland's greatest private collections of art and antiquities, dating from the Neolithic to the 20th Century, including works by Renoir, Picasso and Yeats.

Limerick is also famed as the sporting capital of Ireland and the “spiritual home” of Munster Rugby, Thomond Park, dominates the skyline just outside of the city centre. Gaelic football, hurling, golf, horse-racing, walking and cycling are also particularly popular pursuits. The city also boasts a flourishing restaurant scene and the Milk Market is a great showcase for the best of local artisan food.
