The ancient and picturesque market town of Ennis is the capital of Clare, and is bursting with charming narrow bustling streets and pubs featuring live music sessions almost every night of the week.

The narrow bustling streets and buildings full of character make Ennis something very special indeed. Dating back to the 11th century this ancient town was formed between two streams on the River Fergus when the O’Briens, Kings of Thomond, invited Franciscan monks to establish a settlement.

The town’s history is still palpable today. Take a journey through the areas 6,000 year long history at The Clare Museum with over 400 artefacts which will keep visitors enthralled. Check out the 19th century St Peter & Pauls Cathedral and the imposing monument to the great liberator Daniel O Connell which proudly stands on the site of the old court house in the centre of the town.

Ennis Walking Tours offer lively and entertaining guided strolls through the winding medieval streets - and you can feast at the famous medieval banquets in Knappogue Castle, Quin or Bunratty Castle - all within a 30 minute drive.

One of the newest buildings in Ennis is Glór – Irish Music Centre - a superb auditorium where the best of traditional music, dance and theatre is performed most nights. You can revive at some of the dozens of restaurants, pubs and cafés in the town which won Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre in 2012.
