Dungloe is the largest town in the Donegal Gaeltacht and famous around the world for the annual Mary from Dungloe pageant.


Dungloe’s location on the west coast of Donegal allows visitors a real escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Splendid hours can be spent exploring Errigal Mountain, doing boat trips around the towns 130 lakes and rambling the uniquely rugged landscape.

The area is famed for its sea and river fishing and the locals are happy to share their angling secrets and reveal where to get the best catch! Dungloe is also a haven for wildlife lovers with the bogs and reeds oozing with flora and fauna.

The world famous “Mary from Dungloe” pageant takes place here every August. Running since 1967, the festival provides a constant stream of entertainment for all tastes and age groups. It is extremely popular with emigrant communities across the globe, thousands who come back to Dungloe to find out who will be crowned the best ‘Mary.

There are beautiful treks in the area including the Maghery Walk which forms part of Sli na Rossan (National Waymarked Way). And if you are feeling energetic get on your bike along the Dungloe – Ardara Cycle which brings you through Glenties.
