Nestled on the southern shores of Galway Bay, the enchanting fishing village of Ballyvaughan is the perfect base to explore the spectacular Burren region. Here you can cast off for some sea angling, have the craic in traditional local pubs, or step it out for some mind-blowing coastal walks.

Beautiful Ballyvaughan is the unofficial capital of The Burren, one of the most fascinating places in the world. Whatever it is you are looking for - high octane adventure, a romantic escape, or gentle bonding time with family and friends – you will find it here.

Rich in history and archaeological sites Ballyvaughan is the starting and end point for the 123 kilometre, sign-posted Burren Way walking route which passes by the Cliffs of Moher and a landscape dominated by limestone rock formed 330 million years ago.

You can saddle up for some cycling or get to grips with a rock climbing lesson. This is also the perfect spot to splash out for surfing, kayaking and angling.

Have fun soaking up the vibrant art and craft scene, and whet your appetite on the finest of local artisan food. Put a visit to The Burren Smokehouse on the menu. Why not go underground for a fascinating tour of Aillwee Cave and afterwards drop into the adjoining Birds of Prey Centre, home to eagles, falcons and hawks. Round off a perfect day with a rousing music session in a traditional local pub.
