Spiritual Tourism Package

Geraldine has put together a suggested two day itinerary to assist visitors during their stay at Yeats Lodge. This itinerary can be padded out with other attractions in the Sligo area to lengthen the visit to three or four days. So go loose, or even discover yourself in Yeats’ favourite county. Day 1: Take a walk down the road to visit Yeats grave, Drumcliff Church, round tower and high cross. Read some of Yeat’s poetry, in particular ‘ Under Ben Bulben ’ and appreciate the inspiration for his work. Visit the Glencar Waterfall. Though not of great height, the pressure of the cascade is exceptional. Get up close and enjoy the spray on your face, the sound of rushing water is exhilarating. Get closer to heaven with a Ben Bulben walk. There are routes for all levels of walkers. The route to the summit is short but steep. Worth the effort though, when you get a view of the rolling Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding four counties. Day 2: Ramble around Carrowmore, one of Western Europe’s oldest and biggest Megalithic cemeteries. Climb Maeve’s Cairn, supposed burial mound of Queen Maeve. How esteemed she must have been to deserve a tomb with such a spectacular position. Spend some time in solitude in Sligo Abbey. Dating back to the 13th Century with the belfry tower added nearly two hundred years later. Features include a wealth of carvings and well preserved cloisters. Take a boat trip on Lough Gill and visit Parkes Castle. Marvel at the Lake Isle of Inisfree immortalised by Yeats through his poetry. Complete your day in the area with some time spent at Tobernalt Holy Well. Water springs from the rock here and is purported to have healing qualities. Tobernalt has been created into a place of reflection and prayer and masses continue to be said at the Altar here. This itinerary can be altered to suit the individuals / groups requirements or interests and are based on self - guide, assisted by Geraldine’s information and directions. A tour guide is available to groups; minimum ten people at a cost of €100 - €150 per day. A minibus is available to groups; minimum ten people at a cost of €200 - €240 per day.
