Sea Fishing off the Clare coast
Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare
Family friendly
Cloudy days
The waters off the Clare coast are among the most productive sea angling grounds in Europe. The many piers along the coastline and rocky ledges, interspersed with lengthy stretches of sandy beaches, provide great shore fishing.

The major sea angling ports off the coast of County Clare are Ballyvaughan, Liscannor and Kilrush Marina. The most favoured marks are signposted, as indicated on the maps of both coastlines. Bait can be collected locally on beaches, mud flats and rocky shoreline.

Deep-sea angling continues to attract those who wish to explore the rich waters off the coast. These pollution-free waters are under-fished and continually provide great catches of a wide variety of species. Specimen hunters are regular visitors. Further off the coast blue shark offer superb sport from June to October. Some of the finest fishing grounds which are not to be missed include Galway Bay, around the Aran Islands, at the foot of the Cliffs of Moher and off Loop Head.

Mackerel is the most popular bait for all kinds of sea fishing and a fresh supply is normally caught at the outset of each fishing trip. Calmari squid is another popular bait which is available locally and from tackle shops and supermarkets.

Fully equipped and licensed charter boats with the most advanced electronics operate in these waters. All skippers have a thorough knowledge of their respective fishing territories. Their priority is safety and to find good angling in comfort for their guests, coupled with making all outings a fun experience.

At a time when sea fish stocks are being decimated in many seas, the high quality of sea fishing on offer has been repeatedly endorsed by angling writers who have enjoyed deep sea fishing off the Clare coast.
