Crana River and Fullerton Reservoir

The Crana is a 12km long spate river that takes its water from Slieve Snaght and the Eshakeen Mountains and flows into Lough Swilly, north of Buncranna.

The Crana River tends to fish late with good runs of grilse and sea trout during July. Sea trout are best taken in the lower reaches and at night on small flies using a Black Pennel, Conemara Black, Watsons Fancy or a Bibio.

Fullerton reservoir has a large population of both wild and stocked brown trout. The 400 acre reservoir was stocked in 1998 with 3000 trout of a larger variety. The reservoir is fly fishing only with a two trout bag limit and no shore fishing is permitted.

Open season runs from 1 March until 30 September.
