Ballybunion

Ballybunion is one of Kerry’s premier sea-side family resorts, with miles of blue flag golden sandy beaches, cliff walks, seaweed baths, surfing, pub and fine dinning and its famous Ballybunion Golf Club which is ranked with the best in the world. Ballybunion Castle was built by the Fitzmaurices Lords of Kerry during the 14th Century on the site of the first castle which was constructed by the Geraldines in the 13th Century.

Ballybunion

The striking 9 metres wall of Fitzmaurice Castle dates back to the 14th - 15th century. The castle stands proudly in the enclosure of an Iron Age promontory fort with underground passages which date to the Early Christian Period. The promontory has a prime location with magnificent views of the main beach, cliffs and Atlantic Ocean in its home of Ballybunion.

The town is famous for the Ballybunion Golf Links, 2 links courses, overlooking the beach and dramatic cliff scenery of the area. The sandy beach is very popular among swimmers and surfers due to its warm Atlantic waters and has traditional seaweed baths fuelled with seawater and local kelp. A surf school on the south beach is recognised as one of North Kerry’s best surf spots for the last 20 years. As well as walking and cycling trails there is a new Health and Leisure Centre featuring a 20x10m swimming pool. The area’s rich culture is reflected in the lively traditional music in the pubs. The state of the art Tintean Theatre holds performances of contemporary traditional Irish dance, Irish music and literature. Situated in the north-west corner of Kerry,

Ballybunion is 32km from Tralee, 60km from Kerry Airport and 102 km from Shannon Airport.
